What am I going to learn?

You will learn how to properly play the cello and read music along with the appreciation of
the instrument. My students will also learn the history behind the music, about
composers, musical time periods, rhythm, how to count music, correct posture, how to
understand music, sight-reading, scales/arpeggios, tone quality, how to take care of the
cello (handling), how to fix/apply strings, and how to tune their cello and much more!
What do I need to bring to lessons?
All you to bring is a positive attitude for learning, your instrument
whether it is owned/rented/borrowed, your bow, rock stop, rosin, music
and wire stand. All the other materials needed such as practice music,
work sheets, etc., will be provided by me.
Do I need certain books or certain piece of music?
My first couple of lessons will be used to evaluate my students playing
level and skills to get a feel of where they are, all things considered
such as strengths, weaknesses, and maybe some things to improve on.
Also I use this time to get know a little bit more about my students,
and maybe some of their goals that pertain to music. If you have any
outside work and music that you need help on, you can definitely
bring it to me, and we can work on it. Students can also bring in chair
test excerpts to work on for their next chair test. Most orchestra
programs have these a few times a month, some a few times a week
to evaluate chair seating for upcoming concerts. I will be more than
happy to get my students ready for these types of seating auditions
and to get them to feel comfortable enough to play in front of their
peers which are often the most difficult for some students during
audition time.
Cello Lesson Policy
All students must be up to date with their
payments
to receive future lessons.
Half Hour        45 minutes        Full Hour      Hour and ½
$25                     $35                  $45                  $60
Payment and scheduling:
The first time that I meet with my students, I call this the get
acquainted and jump start lesson.  At this meeting, the student and I
will have a chance to meet, and learn a little about my approach to
teaching and ask questions. I will listen to the student play, perhaps
make a few suggestions, and choose or recommend some appropriate
music for the student to begin studying.
All students should bring their
instrument to this lesson
.

Each student has four lessons per calendar month, while students that
are in more than one music program, summer camp, or ensemble may
have up to six or seven lessons a month. Students should make an
effort to arrive 5-10 minutes early for their lesson, so that they can
have their cello out of the case, tuned and ready at the appointed
time.
A student who arrives late will receive a short lesson and will
not be refunded for the time missed. Lesson times cannot be “held”
without payment, but students can resume lessons after payment is
received.
If the students normal lesson day falls on Thanksgiving,
Christmas, etc. the lesson for that day will be skipped, and will
resume after the holiday break at
no extra cost. If a lesson has to be
skipped because I have an unavoidable conflict, I’ll let you know well
in advance and we will reschedule the lessons at a mutually agreeable
time and take credit of the lesson in the following month.  With a
minimum of 48 hour notice it is sometimes possible to reschedule an
upcoming lesson. Please feel free to ask , but please do understand
that
I many not be able to accommodate all rescheduling requests. I
can receive payment after each lesson, or you can pay in full at the
first lesson at the beginning of each month. Feel free to ask any other
questions if you have any.

Remember, cello lessons are a valuable
investments to instill character, and creativity
into your musical career.
